there's a pretty discus at my lfs and i'm interested in trying it out. any opinions on one discus with two oscars? in there i also have an ornate bichir. the sizes of my fish are in my "tank setup" dropdown. the discus is probably about 5" round.

by the way, i do once to twice weekly 25-50% water changes, depending on my parameters and my last water change.

thanks for the help!

I would say 95% chance that the discus ends up dead just to be honest. Oscars will most likely boss it around until it stresses out and dies, if they don't flat out kill him. And discus really shouldn't be kept alone.

it might work if ya had one oscar, oscar pairs can be more defensive

how about some discus and EBJDs in a seperate tank? the electric blues are more docile than the regular jacks. i'm interested in both, but neither are compatible with my aggressive tank

ol, thank you. i do love my fish and would hate to have anything happen to them, especially due to lack of research on my part. i've researched all of my fish before getting them [except the puffers, due to the reason mentioned in my sig. but i researched before putting them in my tank]. it would also be a huge waste of money if i went and bought all these expensive fish and then had them kill eachother. but the fish's welfare is far more important than the money part anyway.

I would not recommend any boisterous cichlids with discus. Discus tend to be shy and calm, and infact do better with schools of smaller fish (like larger tetras).

A big O will just nuke your water quality and will out compete the discus for food. I have kept both fish and been at this hobby for sometime and I see nothing good coming out of housing these two species together. My 2 cents.
