Hi MFK! I have decided to move onto discus and try to raise and breed them.
I have a 125 gallon tank coming in around next month so I want to get some ideas in my head.

Which is the best looking discus? I know they are horribly expensive but give me some shots :)

Also, a question I have is how are there so many kinds of discus?
I know that they arent injected with color or anything..
also, can you inter-breed discus with different colors?
Thanks

(pictures of the discus would be appreciated. THanks!)

Which kinds of discus are the ones that had a true color instead being experimented on by mixing colors?

There are many color strains of discus. As far as best looking, that depends on who is looking at them. They can be inter bred, which is how many color forms have come around.

As far as expensive, you haven't seen the price of plecos have you?

wow... those are nice discus..

any opinions on nice looking ones?
Just give me names of the discus please and/or pics :)

Richard, I would say you need to research these fish alot, MFK is a wonderful place for lots of info, but the discus forum is not strong. Juvinilles and wilds are fragil(much like your EBJDs). Discus trive with lots of water changes. With mine I change 50% water every friday morning and sunday or monday evening. So in a 125 gallon thats 12 bucket fulls. One thing in your favor is your tap water suits them well. Soft and acidic.

You'd be better off to start them in your 55 gallon as juvis 7-8 of them.

By the way did you ever get those water tests from the LFS?

I recently saw a pair of discus that are worth around 10000USD (yes ... that isn't a mistake). Needless to say, the farm only exports to Japan.. ;)

My red leopards are really nice, my blues are great, my turqs, and green spots are awesome, I love the look of most of the dragons, heckels are cool, tangerines and pigeon bloods are great bright fish. Each person will like different discus, you just got to look at online photos and decide which one you like.
