I have 6 discus and just want to know what to feed them. I am feeding them frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp and just want to know what a good pellet or dry food would be?

I feed mine Hikari Discus Bio-Gold In the morning and at night and two times in between that I feed them frozen Bloodworms, Brine Shrimp, Beefheart and Krill alternating.

Two good dry foods are Tetra color bits, and my preference, Omega one Super color flakes.

The best thing for them would be New Life Spectrum, it is the best thing for any fish. It is the only thing I feed all my fish, discus included.

I don't think NLS is that great personally, and far from the best. It also provides no variety for the discus, which is important, and many discus won't eat NLS discus formula, nor any other formulas. IME NLS is not a great discus food, and isn't accepted by many discus.

Many fish don't accept new foods right away. All you need to do is get them hungry and keep trying.

Have you used NLS? Have you read the nutrition article on their website or read about the results that so many are getting with it? There is a lot of hype over it but the hype is true. I use it for all my fish and we use it for all the cichlids at work. They do much better on it (color, health, and growth). And usually variety is needed because other foods don't provide a complete diet, which is the goal of variety. That is why variety is preached so much, it was needed to get a complete diet. This food provides it however, meaning you no longer need that variety to provide a complete and balanced diet. I have used many diets and NLS is the best I have ever used (live, frozen, pellets, variety and mixes of the above, etc.).

All I can say is if you have not tried it or have doubts about it (as anyone should with so much hype over one food), take an open mind and read through their site and give it a shot with your fish.

I have tried it, it does not produce full size discus, and it is not accepted no matter how long you feed it with a majority of discus. Personally I would consider NLS a good food for some fish, but not for discus.

All of mine take it and took it immediately. ALL of the ones we get in at work take it without any weaning. The only thing they ever get in our store is NLS. And for their size they are the best I have seen. It may not cause powergrowth like some of these super high protein foods, but it is a balanced and complete food.

How long did you keep discus on it?
