Discus Food?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have had discus that were on it for nearly 1 year, with next to no growth, and it was fed on the same schedule as my other set of discus. It does not cause "powergrowth", nor average growth. Every discus I had on it is stunted. Definitely not balanced properly for discus growth, especially not show quality.

It is not a powergrowth food, but I think many others are.

Mine have been on it for about a year and a half and are about as big as the biggest you will find in LFSs.

Where did you get those discus? Were they from a private breeder, a LFS, or what?

I've never tried NLS with discus, but I have with a bunch of different SA cichlids. I don't get as good a growth on NLS only as I do with NLS and live blackworms combined. That's the ultimate combo for me. For me, NLS only produces good color, but not spectacular growth which makes sense as live foods are higher quality protein.

I think NLS is excellent for dried food, the best that there is, but the claims on their website go over the top, I believe.

I think they are taking some liberty with some of their statements.

Higher protein, yes. Higher quality protein, I am not so sure about that part.

I wasn't saying the stock was the problem. I think what they have been fed before and what their parents were fed may make a difference. Seeing as mine are from a LFS I think there is a difference.

I have been Feed NLS for a couple of years now. My Discus Love it . It was not that hard to get my fish to eat it . Only Fish i could not get to eat pellets was my heckel Discus. All My discus ate the pellets after only a couple of weeks of eating it . I also like hikari discus wafers.
