I change 50 to 75% of water every other day in all my tanks.

I commend you for being able to spend so much time maintaining your tank. I personally dislike dealing with mine; the fish are in my tank so I can watch them, not so I can have a reason to do water changes.

Also, I'd be worried about changing so much water. Bacteria-less water isn't a fish favorite...

Hillbilly is quite right.....discus prefer water as stable as possible. I change 30%-50% in my discus tank daily, and it is a 110 gal. It just depends on how much water I have to remove to vac the substrate. I have other fish in other tanks that can adapt to water quality swings much easier than the discus, but because I have the python out everyday the small tanks get changed one day and the big ones the next.

If you don't enjoy being in your tank, discus are probably not for you. I find it therapeutic. My young discus even come up to my hands and swim against my arms while I am in the tank now because I am in it everyday.

Beneficial bacteria are most concentrated in the filter. Very little bacteria are actually in the tank water, so it's really not a concern. With a good biofilter, a 100% water change can be performed without problems. I haven't cycled a tank in over a decade. When I set up a new tank, a fully cycled filter or filters are used so they will be no tank cycle. Fish can be added to the tank at once with no ammonia spikes.

Changed 40 gals of water yesterday . Still no changes in Discus, how long can adult discus go w/o eating? another 40 gals scheduled for today.

Believe it or not, they can go a month or more without eating. If you've ever seen pics of sick discus with Hex that were all emaciated, then you've seen discus that haven't eaten in over a month. I'd give it until the weekend, then if no improvement, start them on a week of daily Metro 100% treatment, about 1/4 teaspoon per 40 gals., with 50% water change between treatments.

Update! Water changes are not cutting it:nilly: lost first 6" discus this morning. Gonna get aggresive with chemicals and tearing tank apart, will keep you updated.

METRO + to the rescue!:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

This morning the Discus look like they might be turning the corner. Tore a couple of filters apart, rearranged driftwood, vacuemed sand, did a 25% water change and then treated the tank with metro + on Saturday.

4 have regained colors with two colbalts still lagging. Will do another water change tonight and treatment if I can find another bottle locally?
Nobody carries this stuff in my area, only 1 LFS so far and I bought what they had.:nilly:

I'm starting to feel positive and looking up. Thanks for all the input to date.

Remember, metro treatments need to be done daily, with a large water change between tratments, for around 5 to 8 days.
