What's up guys? Been looking around the discus section and doing some reading the last few days and I think I've decided I wanna turn my new 15 gallon designer tank into a discus tank. I picked the tank up cheap off of craigslist.org I just have a few questions.

For those who are not familiar with the 15 gallon designer, the dimensions are 13.5" x 13.5" x 25" which I think will be good for 2 or 3 discus. My question is what filtration do you guys suggest? It came with an Aquaclear 30 but I'll probably just throw that on my stingray/arowana tank. I know discus require a lot of filtration and water changes do you think a canister is needed? I am not planning on doing a planted tank just a simple aquascape with a couple discus in there. Any imput from you discus vets would be appreciated!

I am no discus expert, nor do I have any, but it seems more like a cage than a home for a discus or two... I mean once they grow all they can do is turn....

NASCAR!

Discus in that tiny tank? Not a chance. Don't do it. Don't even think about it.

I agree with everyone above. Please get a bigger tank. I wouldn't keep 5 discus in anything less than a 90gal. And when you get a bigger tank, get more than 2 or 3 discus, as they prefer to be kept in groups.

5 neon tetras and a couple of shrimp would look good with some driftwood and a lightly planted environment. It's hard to stock it with much because of the dimensions

thats too small of a tank. you need atleast a 20 gallon tank just for one discus. you need to have atleast two cuz their social fish. Get a far bigger tank with a good filter.

now let me ask one more question. I have a tank with a 9" motoro stingray and 17" arowana would a trio of adult discus fit in to this tank or is that a no no? Keep in mind I am still researching discus and only asking questions to find out opinions from those who know better don't flame me too hard lol.

I have never kept this combination, but I have seen it done. I think it depends on the individual personalities of the fish. But honestly, I would not put only 3 discus in there. I would put at least 5 if space allows.
