Put this in the general forum because it dose not quite fit in the other two.

I have always wanted a spices tank of Discus or Piranha. I am thinking about converting my 150g tall tank to one of them. If I had two tanks available I would do both. I am looking for opinions on which way to go. Also any lessons learned hints and recommendations on type and stock levels in a 150 would be appreciated. A set up that could lead to breading would be a plus.

Thanks in advance, Chaz

i am interested in the answer people give in reguards to the breeding situations with piranhas.

i have piranhas and think they are so good looking once they mature.

Bump for the afternoon crew to take a look.

I would do a planted tank with discus.

Well, I love Piranhas so my answer is simple > Piranhas duh lol :)

You really want a 150 wide for them but a tall will do, I'd get 10-15 baby RBP and let them grow up, if all of them make it you can trade a few of them back to your LFS(if it gets crowded).

Piranhas are for the wow/cool factor, but discus are very beautiful fish. So many colors to choose from and not to mention the demand for them by hobbyist once you get the hang of breeding. I've had discus in the past and they are the most beautiful fish I've ever owned..........

Discus are brighter looking, but really not my thing. I say piranha, lots of people don't like them for some reason.. personally I think they are really cool.

Piranhas aren't as sensitive as discus are and are much cheaper.

Pros of piranhas:
Cheaper than discus
Less sensitive than discus
Less picky than discus

Cons:
few possible tankmates
feeding can be expensive

Discus pros:
nice show pieces
lots of possible tank mates
worth a lot

discus cons:
very sensitive
difficult to grow properly
need to be very careful

If it were my tank and i had to chose between the two, i would go with P's
