I may have another tank coming in, as I want to arrange my current collection. Discuses have always fascinated me. What are your thoughts on discus with silver dollars, all things being equal? My thoughts where three Discus to five SD's? Are discuses still as fragile as my dad said they where back in the day?

abosultly not.

the SD are far too nippy and fast moving for the discus. they arent the fastest moving things all the time and dont really like to be bothered by other fish. plus i dont think the SD would like the water tmpterature to keep the discus happy...you should have it at least at 82. mine is at 86

Many people recommend keeping Silver Dollers with large cichlids such as Oscars, because they are fast. In my experience with Discus, fast swimming fish make them nervous.

Due to domestic breeding, they're probably not as fragile as they once were. Many people now breed them in hard alkaline water, which in my opinion is ok as long as the conditions don't fluctuate. However, they still require very clean water, as they always have.
