discus spawing question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
one of the pair has been fanning the eggs with out fail and it also will use its mouth to "blow" on them. it has not left the "nest" they laid them on the side of the glass. there are about 80-90 eggs.

they have eaten some of the eggs. there are 2 bad eggs that i can see. there is about 30-40 good eggs still.

They are domestic Discus, they look like turquiose to me but I'm no expert on the domestic strains. I see no reason they wouldn't hatch in tap water they are very far removed form wild discus. If it is their 1st spawn they may eat all the eggs but a couple of spawns and fingers crossed they should get right.

it is there first spawn with me, they have layed before, once. i see there is only a handful of eggs left now, but we will see. i thought they should be hatching soon but i don't know.

Look around the aquarim and try to see if they are moving the eggs they will do that and as they hatch they move them to another spot or they are eating them sometimes you really need to look hard to see them watch the parents. Look good in the corners of the aquarium there they are real hard to see I have had that happen many time and I thought the same thing, they ate them but they moved them. Usually they don't move them till they are hatching and being real small they are hard to see.

well i look in there today and i see some are hatching! the female took one of the biggest wriggler and tried to move it, but then just brought it back. it later fell into the sand. will any that fall into the sand that she doesn't find make it to the free swimming stage?
