discus tips?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i tested my ph this morning and its at 6.5 im doing my other tests later today after work, as for my water being like a sewer, its not even close. my water evap rate is great so i do feed clean water into it every other day just about. my buddy has had discus for years so i followed in his foot steps so again just doing what works for me just like yoda said

4in for each. again as i said, i will probably be reemed for it, but its a trial by error process and if anything goes wrong then it will happen but why change something thats worked for so long?

Cool, that's not a bad size considering you're doing WC once a month.

how much money are you dropping every other day on water changes that big? considering discus don't like change, isnt that a bit much?

I hear ya. It does add up. But for most discus keepers, a WC a week is considered lazy.

Whatever works for you man :)

perhaps saying once a month was a bit of an exaggeration lol but its more like every 2.5 weeks. i moniter it very very closely with tests and behaviors and what not. i do what i can with my schedule, i work two jobs, go to school full time and put myself through school and live on my own at 20 so i dont have money to just throw around on a ton of water changes, however if at some point my fish show need for it then gladly i will make the sacrafice im not just trying to be like mean or a poor keeper, but i do what i can when it works and would be the first one to hop on board something if my fish show need for it. if that makes sense, hope the OP is able to utilitze this conversation somehow lol

Just sayin for keeping discus thats not a normal WC schedule. I go to school full time and work also. I dont drop any money on water cause the landlords in tahoe pay for it. Just sayin water changes dont take much time and it cant cost you that much

buy fish at least 4" and it becomes much easier. I have wilds between 5 1/2 and 6 1/2". I do a 60% wc every four days with tap water. ph is 7.6. use a python and a large wc does'nt take much more time. it takes me about 45 min. to do a wc and most of the time is sitting, waiting for the water to empty and fill.
