Discus, Water Parameters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
water changes help stablize KH, in turn PH , keeps TDS low, replenishes some trace elements and keeps nitrates manageable ....it all depends upon your source water quality , stocking levels and filteration.... err on the side of caution change discus water regularly..

In my grow out tanks (its changed every other day plus my tanks have plants. duckweed and christmas moss)..

Adult discus tanks are changed once a week...

it depends on the size of the fish. juvies (3" and under) need to be fed 5 or 6 times per day so daily wc's are needed. my wilds are all over 5". I just went from 4 to 2 wc's per week. wc's are about 70%. my nitrates are 5ppm or less and my fish are very healthy even tho I've been told that they can't survive in 7.6 ph. I use tap water and prime and do not add anything else. IMO wc's are the single most important thing you can do no matter what fish you keep.

Ive been keeping discus for a while. It all depends on the variables. What water your using, how heavy your stock is, your feeding regement. How LARGE you want them.

For me its always been the NO LIMITS. so i do a large water change 5-6x a week. My discus after been 9-10months old are over 6" and breeding on the occasion. Im ok with the labor. Many other people would have given up. REALLY GOOD FILTRATION will help you cut the water changes. Just make sure that every toxin is as low as possible.

i see there are few people have the RO Kent filter and I am curious what's it looks like and is it easy to hook up?

thanks,
