No offence but that is one hell of a bad diet.
x2 and it should work

are you kidding? those are two of the more experienced aro keepers on this board.. not that I always agree with what I've read from soden or bderick but they know what they are on about..

get the aro on shrimp, fillet, mussels, krill.. the best you can feed him is a high quality pellet, hikari or the like.. feeders will sooner or later result in a sick aro (they bring parasites) and especially goldies are very low in nutrients..

In my experience not feeding live reduces aggression in predatory fish and that is maybe something you'd like since you plan to keep them with discus (expensive meals)

thanks...i've heard of hikari and i feed him shrimp as well as beefheart. I've also heard that goldfish have high fat and low nutrients, but its definately not all that he eats. He has a varied diet. But as far as the other members, I have no idea who they are. Ive never really read anyones bio. Not saying they dont have experience, just wanting to know what they feed their aro's if they had any...

mm.. sorry if it came across as a bit rude, I didn't see you are relatively new.. but soden keeps a ton of asians and bderick is somewhat of a SA aro guru.. so I meant it in a jokingly way..

that sounds good, but there is a load of threads about what to feed everything from the tiniest to the biggest aros here.. but shrimp is very good!

Sorry if that sounded wrong, but, crickets have no nutrition by themselves, unless you feed them carrots for karotene. Flake food does not provide enough bulk or nutrients for aros. Goldfish and feeders have no nutrition either. They even have acids that kill off vital vitamins while the aro is digesting food, only way to prevent that is to directly inject the vitamins into feeders right before feeding. I forgot what vitamins they were at the moment but ill try to go dig it up. Plus feeders are usually parasite infested. Unless you feed your crickets carrots and your goldfish/feeders pellets, theres really nothing going into your fish except protein.

To answer your feeding question, forgot to post it with the other post.

1. Hikari: aro food sticks, carnivore, massivore, cichlid gold- contains most if not all necessary nutrients for an aro
2. Market prawns- whole with shell for big aros, cut up with shell for smaller aros. Shell on for karotene= better colour.
3. mealworms- for carotanoids again for better colour.
4. crickets (very rare)- Only used as a treat if an aro is sick or won't eat. Always fed carrots before feeding to aro.
5. Anchovies- Becuase of their high salt content, it is good for a fish's digestive system. But also becuase its high in both salt and fat, I only feed this once every 2 weeks.
6. Krill- I usually don't have krill but whenever I feed like getting some, i will feed it. Also packed full of karotene which is good for colour.
7. Everything else- Ocaisonally, I will have left over fish fillets, mussels, and sometimes oyster.

I certainly agree with getting them on a good pellet but some of these others should be fed cautiously . A friend of mine posted this on another forum. The last article is especially good. I don't think you should necessarily omit these items from your fishes diet but feed sparingly.

BTW I feed mine walleye fillets stuffed with pellets.
I would love to see some pics of your reds. Got any links?
