i've been reading up and ive seen a few people have kept the two together. anyone have some personal experience keeping these two together? im fixing to setup a 75g and im throwing around ideas and was seeing if this combo would work. right now my bichirs are about 5". they get along great together but they're in a tank by themselves.

anyone here ever kept your bichirs with discus? im thinking of mixing my small senegal and delhezi with some discus in a planted 75g. let me know if any of you guys have any experience with this type of setup.

That is an interesting combination. It would look great if you properly aquascaped the tank! Only worry are those pesky lower-jaws and their ability to swallow 12" fish. Go for palmas and delhezi for color and temperment. That would look awesome!

that's perfect!!! Remember to use peat in the filter to soften your water, and do multiple small water changes. You'll have a stunning tank!

Keep the bichir well fed and make sure the discus are full grown before attempting it and you should be fine.

I'd imagine a bichir would try and take a bite out of a sub adult or juvie.

might find better experience over at simplydiscus.com

I've had bichir take bites out of things in the past, things that they could definately not perceive as being able to fit in their mouths...

i have been searching over there quite a bit but when the subject of a bichirs as tankmates is brought up, most don't know what they are

I had a 12" ornate in with some of my discus for a couple of months and he could've cared less about them. I never saw him even acknowledge that the discus were in the same tank. My discus mainly stay up near the top, especially when feeding. The ornate stayed at the bottom, so it worked out.

bichir will come up top at night and take bites out of sleeping fish if they're starved out, so like I said just make sure it's well fed and I don't see why it would be a problem.
