discus with bichirs

I agree, although you never know. In my experience discus are best kept alone, although many people disagree and have had success with select tankmates.

Hi,

this is Heiko Bleher and I can only agree with gonneiro. Naturally you can join Geophagus or Biotodoma, small groups, or 2-3 Uaru with it, but remember a discus will never know what a bichir is and vice versa.

They are definately no tank mates anyone should suggest. think fish - please.

Best regards from a collector

In cases where it worked, it was probably simply 'worked well enough' which is not promoting thriving, just living.

A discus tank should really be devoted to the discus with all decor and tankmates chosen very carefully with the discus' priorities being top.

There are much better options for tankmates with a couple bichirs in a 75.

Everyone has very good points. However, I have four discus and a bichir and they get along great. My bichir doesn't even pay attention to anything but his crazy self. I also have two rays in there which I hear is a no no, but they have been together for almost a year and no problems. My discus were about 3 to 4 inches and when I added the bichir he was about 5 inches. Just as long as every one has a full belly I think everything should be fine.

thanks for eveyones input, i decided ill just keep my bichirs in my 55g with my severums and im getting rid of my datnoids.

Hey, Just thought I'd let you know I have a 75 with 2 discus and 2 bichirs (sen) and yup it works out great....They don't seem to notice each other much at all....when the bichirs get over 9-10 might move em but right now.... just a cool looking planted tank....

Good decision on the discus...I am about ready to trade mine for some more bottom dwellers.

Why are you getting rid of the dats?

most of the time they're fine in my with my severums but the sevs have began to spawn quite frequently and they aren't getting along in such a small tank. id rather have a more peaceful tank that a crazy one like mine is at the moment.

I've been doing it for about a year now. Discus were there first then added the bichirs no problems yet.
