Hello,

I saw at my LFS a tank with 4-5 discus and 2 teacup stngrays. I found that an interesting combination and may consider it with 150g.

I just want to know if anyone has experience with those types of fish togethor. I have had rays but never discus.

Thanks,

Dan

A friend of mine had a motoro and some discus in a 75g.. looked awesome.

Erm, in some areas in nature discus and sting ray occur in the same biotype - I think.

If the discus are ever small enough to fit in the sting ray's mouth you can say goodbye to em'.

I talked about this pretty extensively with one of the importers who keep wild sting ray with wild discus in the states and he pretty much told me to expect losses every few months if it's done.

I dunno discus are expensive and to expect losses every month??? That discus bill would get to be a pretty penny. Cheapest discus in my LFS are 90 bucks and the bigger ones are from 125-500 with tons in the 250-400 range. That just seems to risky to me.

Hi,

this is Heiko Bleher and I just wanted to tell you:

Wild discus live frequently with freshwater stingrays in harmony in nature together. I have collected, seen them and published extensively in my book: Bleher's Discus volume I about it. I have done many biotope displays aquariums with stingrays, discus and their mates. There is no problem at all, as long as you give them fine (best white) sand as substrate and you do not place tank breed (hybrid) discus, or small ones in the aquarium with them.

All the very best,

from a collector
