Hey everyone, im new to posting but not new to the site and i have a quick question to ask, i have a 40 gallon (already cycled) the dimentions are 30 inches in length, 23 in height, and 12 in width. Now my question is, is it possible to have 1 or 2 discus in that tank?? Thanks.

A school consists of atleast 5-6 fish.

A shoal is like 3-4.

A pair is 2.

Your tank is a 38G and no you canot put discus in it.

With a daily 15-20% water change I would think 3 would be alright, personally though I'd agree with Z that you would want at least 5-6 and a larger tank, 55-60 g minimum

A group of 4 will be fine in that tank. Just keep up on water changes, and research a lot before you get into it. Talk with a reputable breeder and they can help get you started.

Would you recommend this fish for a beginner?

Depends on the beginner, and now closely the follow advice, and how deep their pocket book is. They can be kept by most, but you just have to be willing to put in a good bit of elbow grease, and some time.

Thanks for the info, my friend kept on doubting that i could do this but i knew there was a possibility. Thanks for the replies i really apreciate it, ive been thinking of putting 4 discus in, 2 red pigeon bloods and 2 blues, is this fine?? I would like to upgrade the tank size eventually though. Soon enough i can.

Depends on the beginner and how dedicated/water changes they are willing to to keep up, with the right research and a good understanding of the task in hand then why not?

There is a good nucleus of discus of keepers here if support is required. Tropical fish keeping experience would help.

Quality bred pigeon bloods are one of my favorite strain

Good luck hope all goes well
