Discus requirements are much more rigorous than other fresh water fish. You need to be very commited with water changes. Some people do 50% a day! Educate your self on these fish first before deciding to get some.

I own seven discus. I have two asian discus and 5 german stendker discus. You do not have to do a water change everyday. i do mine everyy two weeks and my discus are doing well. You just need to make sure your parameters are perfect. After all they are expensive!

Yes, but it's advisable to change water more often than only to remove nitrates. A lot of stuff will collect in the water over a 2 week stretch that hobbyists don't test for, like proteins and such.

I think the 50% daily water changes are only done when they are juvi's. Adults are fine with a weekly 50% water change. Just make sure you have an established tank before ever trying to buy these fish.

i usually do a 50% water change twice a week and mine are happy and healthy as can be. definately spend some hours researching about them before you make your first purchase.

Yes you can keep them with rays, I do, and I know a few guys that do as well. Everyone's advice here is very valid though. They can be very sensitive fish so water changes are key. But if you're as committed to your rays as I am and already do 50% weekly water changes and your filtration is top notch, then you should be ok and successful.

Reading is essential, I got into discus through a local stockist(of only discus) and still failed on about 3 attempts, there are so many theories for best care etc. From my experience, go for captive bred and take your discus journey from there, good luck
