I had a Tokay until I got married. They can be held if you wear gloves because they bite. They bark and are very active one the lights are off.

I have always wanted to keep discus, but the high maintenance and specific needs always kept me away. Soft acidic water, bare bottom grow out tanks (gross), feeding them 5 times a day, 80+ degree constant temps, and massive (80% daily) water changes are a good deterrent, even for an experienced fishkeeper like myself.

Happy Birthday and happy fishkeeping. I look forward to see what you end up doing.
You can keep discus healthy and happy without that level of headache. I have kept them in planted tanks and never fed beefheart. 2 Orange sunburst and 4 WC. Regular weekly or every other week water changes with proper filtration will work.

Not so much. I housed my discus in a 65g with a sump. Plants were jungle val, a crinum sp, swords, anubius and java fern. Bogwood and dragon stone. Seachem Flourite Red for substrate.

Did you raise your discus from small juveniles? Did you get them halfway grown? Do you have any pics of them as full grown adults?

A little update. I found a few discus at my LFS for 40$ each there is 3 and they're really cool. I can find a pic from the web of their general colors, they are like these ones but the belly is white and face is orange. I need another heater and water pillows. Than it will be ready.
