Discussion: Fish Dieing for "No Reason"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Fish die for a reason, theres always a reason. It may be preventable, it migh not be. you might find the source or you might not, but something always happened. Chances are if they say they died for no reason, they either just don't know the reason or don't want to admit the reason. and if a whole lot of them died in short order, then there may have been a chain effect, but there certainly was a reason.

I agree that there is always a reason, even if it is old age. I once fed my discus(no longer with me) and watched the match on tv, went next door for a quick beer came back and my favorite fish was dead, everything else was fine.

The only fish that die and it isn't our fault is... the annual Killifish. I hope i spelled killifish right.

"No Reason" should be changed to "Unknown Reason".
The OP is lacking in complete understand of all the reasons why a fish dies in our care. We all lack 100% knowledge. Even the most experienced and highly educated folks on this forum have to guess at times.

I don't even know how feeder fish die. It is stomach acids, lack of oxygen, trauma, etc?

I had a resin ornament (a gargoyle I beleive) that leached something into the water that killed everything in the tank. The only way I found out, is I took out the ornament, and then things started living. It's still a guess, but an educated one. I think people put a little too much faith into the people that make those "fish safe" ornaments. I will never trust another one unless I inspect it thoroghly .

You're forgetting what the OP said in red font. He elaborated there is a reason, not there is no reason at all.

How many people actually believe this and what are your thoughts. You see this every day on this site.

Personally, I have never had a fish that died that didn't have a reason. And, IMO, I think this excuse is crap. There is always a reason why (especially when it happens to multiple fish) and people just don't want to own up to the fact they messed up and killed their fish.

What are you thoughts?
