So, I think this has been brought up on the forum before, but has anyone actually experimented with this stuff? Seachem says for denitrification to occur it needs to be kept in a sealed container with 50 gallons per hour or less of tank water flowing through it.

I have a fluidized bed filter laying around I could easily rig a small pump to to try it out...

Thoughts? I'm not trying to affect my water change schedule at all (I really don't mind water changes honestly), I just am more curious than anything. Feel free to also discuss deep sand beds or anything related to the topic in freshwater tanks.

I have used this stuff before. It was quite effective, but nothing compared to purigen. I moved it, however, into a planted tank system, without realizing it, and kept my nitrates at 0, but was dosing 45ppm of nitrate a day. Took a few weeks to figure it out.

I've run purigen in everything from dedicated powerhead filters, to aquaclears to canisters.

I have run it in those things as well, but never saw noticeable reduction of nitrates--just improved water clarity. Can you clarify how much you used and the reduction you saw in your nitrate levels?
