Im the same way im always buying stuff that interests me instead of what i should be buying. if you got a 55 thats available though might as well grow him out in there before he goes in the big tank.

I'm not pointing fingers at responsible hobbyists who keep growout tanks (I have them). I'm saying that it is our responsibility, as responsible hobiests, to promote the best information.

Hell no...they would have complained to my boss and I would have been the one getting screwed.
When dealing with people like this, the first thing out of my mouth was "do you think you will be able to house this fish for it's life?". The most common response was "Well, how big does it get?". Some people clearly don't put in the time to research the fish they want to buy. People would come in with the "One inch per gallon" mentality and say well if I have a 10 gallon that is 20" long and the Oscar only gets 15" long then I'm all set. I used to try to get people of imagine themselves in those conditions and then they seem to get it.
We actually took in an oscar once that had a curved spine because it was touching the ends of the tank...how cruel is that?

very well said bro, you posted this 4 years ago and now its 2012 and we are still seeing these type of posts. but in my opinion, this forum would not be a success if all beginners would buy a 150 gallon tank. i admit that i also found this website because im looking for possible solution to my tank, but haha 4 years and still the same.. i love this website
