disease killing my best fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Man, in all my years this is the first time i've heard of the duck lip disease! I'll do more research on it and hopefully contact an ichthyologist or someone who knows exactly what organism is causing it.

I lost 5-6 umbee's and now i have a zonata thats on his last leg. anybody recognize this? see pic. Started on mouth, now looks like a lump has developed on forehead.View attachment 787215

I've had it multiple times. after.discussing with dan of coa we learned its a bacterial infection, part of columnarius. the best treatment is lower your temp and use furan 2 AND eretromycin(spelt that wrong). i've only had 1 out of 15 fish survive this. but the treatment stopped the outbreak. the red soars will get lil white spots pokeing out like pipples. if he li es long enough his face will literally rot off. at this point i strongly suggest you put him down humainly. then treat your tank.

the best defence against this is healthy immune system. very clean water, a stress free tank(which can be done even in an overstocked tank like mine, and i guess yours is to) and clean water. i started using, vitamin supplements for my fish and haven't had issues since

I wish i would have done my research when my first fish contracted this. From the responses and what i've researched so far, It certainly looks to be flexobacter columnaris. I will siphon tank bottom, large scale water changes, turn heater off and add salt to prevent the remaining fish from contracting it. Oh and add activated carbon to the filtratio system.

yeah sorry for your loss. he was beautiful. i lost, almost all my prized fish in a month. i almost quit for good. ive, noticed that the cichlasoma get it easy but the viejas it almost never affected.

work on the immune system and you should be good. dianchi xl cichlid pellets are veggie based, glazed with vitamins and have almost the sane protein as massivor. i get on Amazon. i fully think,it made a huge differance

Man bad odds, I feel I can always beat this at this point, after my first loss. People dont believe the hype that your fish is gone because it contracts this, the dreaded duck lips can be cured. In my exp it doesnt outbreak or effect any other fish as long as the first inffected is removed to a hospital tank. Poor results are probably attributed to attempting to treat in a large community setting, and the metro seems to have the most effect, strongly sugg adding to feed for internal treatment.

Wish I had before after pics, but dont like to remember how f ed up my fish looked prior to cure. I can take some pics of my mostly cured fh female, wich was as bad as your zo, if anyone is interested. Fh are more suceptible, and I have noticed that females contract it more often than males.

Those little white spots poking out is acctually the puss breaking through like a pimple, when it hits the water it hardens and doesnt leak out, when you add the metro the puss and some blood will easily leak out.
