Hey, my uncle( which i got most of my fish from) tells me that its ok to go to the store and buy feeder and just throw them in, and he never worries about disease or anything and he has been doing this for over 10 years. He currently stocks and breeds Jags, Dovii, and Black Belts, and all his fish are beautiful. So my question is, Do we really need to worry about feeding diseased feeders to our monster? Has anyone had one of their fish die because of this?

Feeding feeders is like doing it with that easy girl at school, sure it might sound cool, you might enjoy it for a few minutes, but it won't get you anywhere and you might come out of it with a disease.

Yeah dude, feeders are a no go. The only time you should feed feeders is if you have a fish that will only eat them and you're trying to wean it off (or is they refuse anything else). I never feed feeders to any of my fish, didnt in the past. All sorts of problems can happen. If you do get feeders, stay away from goldfish, Quarantine for two weeks in a tank with Melafix, Pimafix and coppersafe.

I agree with Ramrod. however, if you must use feeders, get a 10g tank and breed your own guppy or convict fry. From what I understand, fry are more nutritious, you can gut-load them, and you can relax more knowing exactly where they came from.

what types of deseases do feeders acarry and how often has this occured to you or anyone you know? i'm asking because lfr's would argue that it's not true and that feeders are healthy. what processes that feeders go through, create a situation that allows for them to suddenly become diseased? we understand how the loose girl at school can become sick, but what about feeders?

yeah io currently have some convict fry. but its hard for the parents to take care of the babies when there is a dovii, a jag, a JD, and 3 black belts around, even though they are all under about 6 inches.

I have worked as a manager at a Petsmart, to a reg employee at a Mom and Pop shop LFS, and aquarium maintenance/fish supplier. I've seen sick feeders numerous times from numerous vendors, goldfish to live-bearers.
Stress is a big factor, shipping and raising.
