and y is it that these stores cant do anything about it.
because its costs more. why do think the animals we eat are kept in such cramped and unsanitary conditions, it would be extremely bad for us if we ate them every meal whole and uncooked.

it is to be expected that 1000s of feeders crammed into a 40-50 gallon holding tank would contract diseases. any disease could be transfered from the feeders to the fish in your tank.

i can understand stand that but come on, i would rather see them in a cheap big rubbermaid tank. Also dont u think if the feeders had a lil more care, ppl would buy more of them

What about using Ghost Shrimp as feeders vs fish? I understand that there is still a risk but wouldn't it be more rare for a disease to go from an invert to fish rather from fish to fish?

I no longer work for that company. You can only get so high in the company before you realize what it's all about. It was a good experience though. but when I worked there, I became numb to the death. Fish, animals, when anything died, it meant nothing. That was when I knew I had to get out. It changed me. I stopped thinking about the animal and started thinking of them as dollars (Shrink). I felt brainwashed. I was a very good manager, the youngest in my district. I even had the VP fly down and a dozen or so VIP's come to my store just to look at my store and ask me questions on how I was able to do some of the things I did. I could write a book about that freakin place....but I dont. I even stay away from any threads that speak of Petsmart/Petco. I've washed my hands of it.

Feeding feeders is like doing it with that easy girl at school, sure it might sound cool, you might enjoy it for a few minutes, but it won't get you anywhere and you might come out of it with a disease.

 Exactly.

what types of deseases do feeders acarry and how often has this occured to you or anyone you know? i'm asking because lfr's would argue that it's not true and that feeders are healthy. what processes that feeders go through, create a situation that allows for them to suddenly become diseased? we understand how the loose girl at school can become sick, but what about feeders?

Numerous parasites, bacterial infections, even fungal infections. Mass quantities of goldfish, raised in open ponds, and packed hundreds to a bag never ends well. Goldfish are ammonia machines in cold water. It's just not a good idea. I, too, have been on the retail, wholesale, and maintenance side of the hobby. I have seen near entire shipments--WHOLESALE SHIPMENTS (10s of thousands)--die by the time they made it to us or shortly thereafter. All it takes is the one time for your uncle to change his opinion. ;) If you must give feeders (though there's really no need) breed your own guppies, cons, whatever. Just don't do feeder goldfish.

well you also have to think of filtration for it, also the space lost do to those big containers. its hard for a store to justify that much space for something people can get frozen, that takes up alot less space, wont go bad(die) before purchase, wont transmit diseases.

when ever large populations of fish are kept together(adequate space or not), with continuous influx of new specimens. there bound to be risk of sickness and infection, the crampt conditions just make the risk of transmission worse.
