Disinfecting Sand, Not Just Cleaning It

I would only use that much bleach outdoors. The fumes inside would be quite dangerous.

What about for disinfecting a bare tank itself after the sand is removed? Disinfecting against, snails, disease or anything. Would a 5% bleach solution be recommended there?

So I decided to just pitch out all the old sand. I drained the tank and wiped the glass with a 5% bleach solution. I refilled the tank with tap water, drained it, refilled again adding 5 times the regular dose of chlorine remover, drained and refilled again with proper amount of chlorine remover. Fish are doing fine.
