Hi all, as some of you know I just recently purchased a RTCxTSN who is about 3.25" head to tail. I am now starting my build for his pond. The plan? I have a 12'5"x9'4" pond liner which will obviously be where he will swim around in, since I live in upstate New York it gets very very cold here...this pond will be outdoors which presents numerous problems, which I have found ways of fixing. To keep it warm during the winter months there will be a polyurethaned plywood box to go over it this box will be lined with fiberglass insulation to keep the heat in and cold out, much like a house. The pond itself will have a decent sized pond heater....not de-icer...actual heaterm to keep the water warm obviously. For filtration, I will have 2x 4 tier "closet organizers" filled with scubbies and biomedia, run off a single pump. There are still some bugs in the plan, but I will figure them out and it should be operational by end of july. Let me know what you guys think of my idea...as the build begins within the next couple of days.

Final pond size. length 8'4", width 4'6", and depth 18", with a 8" lip to hold the liner in place. I will have to fidn out how many gallons this is, and I know that it is semi-small, but it's not for life I have another planned in the not so distant future.

Bigger filter... Lol.

what temp are you keeping in the winter months? you're gonna need alot of wattage. I suggest at least a 50g drum used as a sump/filter and to keep your heaters in.

The pond will be around 78 during the winter months, with all the things I am doing to keep it warm, I will probably een have to add a air heater to keep the ambient air temperature high. Where can I purchase a 50 gal drums? Lowes, Home Depot, ect? I llike the idea of the drum to keep everything contained. Any more constructive criticism? It would be much appreciated.

Let this be known this si semi experimental, and if it fails to work I will redo it in my bedroom so I know for sure it will be warm.

I think you're going to have a HUGE electric bill. You mentioned something about a green house, are you building it in one? that would be cool (or in this case warm) The sun would help heat the room and water and you would be able to visit in comfort during the winter months. I think it's completely do able if you can afford the electric. There is a guy on here with a 2-3k outside tank in Ohio.

Good luck and take pic's as you go.
