Or how bout this even, instead of making a full blown greehouse, as I don't have that kind of time before college hits, could I make the box that is going to go around the pond be made out o greenhouse windows? Woudl that have the same affect? Just thinking out loud.

that might be a good bet then a cover over the pond would help alot

the tunnel would atleast keep the wind chill off which will help alot then the cover and insulation would help alot to,
just thinking alowed id think this could be heated with a one kilowatt heater, just have the filter inground next to the pond so as little heat is lost as possible

I will look into it, my second bet is building a 3' wide by 9' long by 2' high 2x4 box in my room and put the liner in there...we will see what happens.

I have PM'd Necroanis, but he has not responded to my pm, he did something quite like this, but I can not find much information about it.

Heat will also escape into the ground.

Regards a green house, they're not much use in severe winters without a heater. I think your box idea, with a greenhouse on top, might work well - especially if the greenhouse were made of acrylic sheets and loaded up with blankies ;)

I am still looking into everything, I am actually rethinking the idea to this. I build a 2x4 box to house the liner, coat the outside of the box with fiberglass insulation. Then create a box to go around it with even more insulation inside the box, including all sides and the top, which will have a hinge system to be able to open and feed the fish. I would also have a similar setup to enclose the filter and such, while running 3-4x 800w heaters? How does this sound?

the poly tunnel is more for a wind break if you can stop the wind hitting the main tank the space with air will act as insulation

I was going to comment on that. If your doing the tiered cabinet DIY W/D and running only one pump it would have to be inside the pond right? So how would you enclose that seprately? You'd also have to insulate the water lines going back and forth REALLY well. Heck you'll have to insulate EVERYTHING really well. I think insulation will be the key. If you make the dementions right maybe you could find an old hot tub cover to use since that has some insulation built in already.

I just want to prove the nay-sayers wrong o it being done with an outragious price. It can be done, and somewhat affodably. Any more suggestions on the new idea?
