Display reptile...that can be handled?

Ball pythons may be everywhere now but when the morphs first started coming out it was a world of its own. $5K-10K for a single snake was not unusual at all and several sold for over $100K. I remember when an average pastel was $1.5K, although they quickly fell in value, as most co-dom morphs do. I haven't checked recently but they can't be much more than a normal now. The feeders were easy once you get into a system where everything is automated. Clean the tubs every four days and you're good to go. The rats don't smell at all compared to the mice. African soft furred rats didn't smell bad either but they are the meanest critters ever.

There still is some crazy expensive morphs out there. When I was at NARBC last year here in Anaheim, I saw a ball morph who's price tag was around $150k. No idea what it was though. I should've taken a picture.

Cool. I wonder what it was? I used to always go to the NARBC shows when I lived in socal but since I moved out east I haven't been to one. They're a blast to go to though and short of Florida, socal is the reptile center of the US.

That is true. I never realized that till you brought it up. This time of the year is when all the shows start happenin.

It started off in just a 36"Wx12"Dx24"H cage that I built and as it grew, I built bigger and bigger until eventually it was in a 12'Wx4'Dx8'H enclosure with plenty of climbing branches and basking and hiding spots. By tame, I actually meant tame, like I could walk up to it to pet it and it wouldn't move and when I open the door, it would just calmly walk out and I could just pick it up and it would just chill on my shoulder. It took a LONG time though to get it like that. Like I said, it was just a baby when I got it and I started off by putting my hand in and letting him approach me. It first would just lick my hand then walk away, later it would actually climb on top of my hand then climb off and eventually it would climb on my hand then climb up my arm. This took about 1-1/2 years for it to eventually let me just pick it up and not care.
A 12'x4'x8' cage for a lizard that regularly grows upwards of eight feet long? What temperatures was it provided with to bask at?

If it was me I would get a Brazilian rainbow boa. You could have a cool rainforest set up with a fogger.

If you go bigger with a tank, you could get a tegu. They get decent sized, have some nice colors, and can be trained to be handled. Look up tegu on google images, and I'm almost positive 3 out of the first 10 will be pics of them beig handled.

Rosy boas stay small and are very easily handled, quite pretty also and not that expensive (usually around 100 for regular ones) when you start getting into the locality specific strains they get pricey

May I suggest an albino red tail boa. They really come down in price. Get big enough for the wow factor but not huge, easy to handle/tame.

If you want to spend a little more money, get a male panther chameleon. Nothing will beat that wow factor. Screen cages so you can make ant shape/size you want, water falls and live plants. That's would be some great eye candy. Also pretty easy to care for.
