hey guys i have a 60 hex with 1 balloon green terror a pleco and a mayan chiclid. i have currently 8 exodon paradox's in there with them. my question to you guys is do you think the exodons are good dither fish. they are pretty nasty fish and i think they can hold thier own.

no, either the exodons will eventually kill everything else slowly or if the mayan survives a while it may terminate the others as they are pretty mean.
either way that hex is gonna get small pretty quick and you will have one of the 2 outcomes.
with the cichlids you have the hex has too small a foot print for either one by itself never mind with tankmates. larger cichlids generally require length rather than just lots of gallons.
i dont know much about exodons but i do know they have a well deserved reputation for predation and even large fish arent immune from them as they work as a group taking the scales here and there. all this nipping will take its toll eventually on even large fish. as for the tank being suitable for a decent exodon shoal, i will leave that to another member.

I agree with above... I think eventually you'll need to get yourself a wider tank...

totally agree with above, cichlids need a standard rectangular footprint to enable them to set up territories etc,and this tank will be far too small as it is

Agreed, that makes an awful cichlid tank. If you're a cichlid fan, maybe lose the exodons and the larger cichlids and get some smaller cichlids. Or keep the hex as your exodon tank, and for the Mayan, purchase him a minimum tank of 75 gallons with a standard footprint of 4' x 18". If you want more cichlids than just the Mayan, you'll probably need a 6' x 18" minimum. gl

u can't keep cichlids in hex tank, green terror and mayan cichlids need at least a width of 12 inches, and need long tank to swim around. wider the tank, ur fishes will be happier. Dither fish also need long swimming space otherwise will be eaten.
