Dither fish tank mates for jack Dempsey pair?

Here are a couple shots of JD habitat in the Yucatan, and fish they share it with.
If you are at all concerned about being geographically correct (as Stanzzzz7 already stated) sailfin mollies, or large Gambusia would be apropos.

I haven't found anything to work with my jd. He kills full grown blackskirts, rainbows, and mollies. I think he must be particularly predatory for a jd because he has yet to eat a pellet in the year since i got him. Loves eating my rainbowfish though.

No doubt. If i had a tank set up just for him i was gonna try some barbs but im thinking they will get munched too. Hes really quite a prick.

Maybe some orangespotted sunfish, as they are small enough to not really be a threat, but tough enough to not get annihilated.

Those might work as well, but they get a lot bigger than orangespots.

My JD does amazing in the tank I have - 2 angelfish, african featherfin cat, brown knifefish. However, you should be really careful about your stocking. Full grown rosaline sharks seem okay? Not biotope accurate but...
