I have just finished stocking my tank and looking at it it seems right at the limit. So, I am considering swapping my 6 x 2.5-3" Congo Tetra for some smaller dithers that dont go above 2" but not small enough that they will get eaten! Also, I am looking for something of a different colour as the theme seems to generally be oranges, and I was thinking of something bright, like shades of bright red, blue or yellow. I want these fish to swim around the top area of the tank. It would be even better if I could stick to fish that are found in SA/CA. My stock list is in my signature - please could I get your ideas? Thanks.

Hi there, the stocklist is in my sig.

You may be able to get away with Buenos Aires Tetras, they are fast, from...well Buenos Aires, get a nice shade of red on their fins and stand up to my Lake Malawi's. You can try Serpae Tetras if you like more red, but they may not do as well with the tankmates.

I was thinking of Serpae Tetras but do they fin nip? I have some Geo Redheads in there and dont want their trailers eaten when they get them!

Ive got Buenos Aires Tetras in with my Midas. They nip at each other all the time but leave the Midas alone. They are fast and stay away from him but I awoke to one missing and the Midas munching on a carcass. That one must not have been fast enough! If the school is big enough they seem ok. I "had" seven to start with.

Look into the Bleeding Heart tetra. I have two of them with my 4" Green Terror. I had the Buenos Aires, but they got on my nerves with all the nipping at each other, so back to petco they went.

I'd say ditto on the bleeding hearts, or perhaps colombian tetras..both are colorful, and also smaller than the congos
