There is no guarantee that your JD breeding pair wont hurt any of your dither fish. A few things that will determine dither fish safety.... How big is the tank and have extra hiding places. Keep the JD well fed. Also if they are currently in the process of breeding they will protect the fry and eggs anyway possible.

Their is always the chance that a cichlid would go after dither fish. Get something fast like giant danios.
