I have two silver dollars in with my dovii pair. One of them has a pretty big gash on its back; you can see skin and bones. OK, well i dont have anywhere else to put that guy for treatment since my med tanks are currently in use for other treatments. I have started treatment in the tank its already in. is there a possibility of my Dovii getting sick from the open wound on dither? Or should i remove it? thanks.

In my oppinion theres no point of silver dollers in a tank with a dovii pair. Just get a divider. Ya more then likely that fish is could to get sick, and die.

They have been with the dovii pair since they have been a pair and have worked great so far so that male focuses on them instead of female. I really dont care if it does pass but i dont want my pair to get sick from it. The silver is doing fine otherwise. i do WC everyother day to induce breeding and added salt for silver benefit. but if i pull that one then ill have to find a replacement, which ill start looking for one now. ive tried tinfoils and others but dovii just destroyed them:) the silvers are the only ones that have survived the anger. and id rather spend money on dithers than my male taking aggression out on female.

I mainly asked this question to see if silver will heal and what i might be able to do to help heal it or prevent further infections.

silver dollars are great dither fish, but a bit expensive. I would nt treat the water your dovii is in, just to save a dither. If its just a gash without infection, then no treatment required. If its gowing something, pull it out and kill it. Other cheaper dithers include, minows, giant danios, and tinfoil barbs. Some might be smaller but theyre fast and might last a while before having to replace em.

I have a bunch of SD's with my Dovii without any casualties. He's killed every (three) tinfoil barb I've tried. They're just not quick or agile enough to stay away from his deadly teeth.

I agree. the tinfoils dont seem as fast or something. both male and female have destroyed them. I dont know what it is about the silvers but they are the only ones that have been able to co-exist with the wolves. and there is a lil mold like stuff growing on gash so ill pull him.

May he rest in peace.

How much bigger is your male than the female? Why not try the eggcrate divider with a hole cut out in it for just the female to fit through? My SD's are always recovering from either a tail chunk missing or something, hard to find and expensive to do the bigger ones..
