So has anyone found any dither fish that will survive a full night with a red terror and two jack dempseys? I tried three tiger barbs as well as three serpae tetras. I got off of work and fed my fish right before I left to get their new possible tankmates so that they wouldn't be too hungry and think they were immediately food. All three of my cichlids are about 4-5" and all 6 of the dithers were about 1" because that is the biggest they had them. I only bought a few at first to see if they would be able to survive. Things were going well that evening. The cichlids would make a snap at the tetras or barbs but the little guys were too fast and could fit places the cichlids couldn't. But come morning they were all gone.
Any ideas on what kind of fish could work?

Ok I'll look into that. How big do they get? because I want something that will be able to live for a while before the cichlids grow big enough to fit them in their mouth

Get Tinfoil Barbs or Red Hooks both are cheap, fast and grow fairly large.
It may even be worth buying them at a larger size.

Silver Dollars? My JD and O's gave up trying to catch them a long time ago (except for water change time when the scales start to fly)!

Maybe try Giant Danios. I had luck with them in my Jack Dempsey tank. They are very fast and usually stay at the top of the tank.

I have Buenos Aires Tetras. My 4" JD does not bother them at all unless they go in his cave. They get around 3" from what I have read and are really active.
