What the hell is a redhook and a flagtail.:irked: Not as advanced in the MFK world as i should be.

Are they Silver dollars or the barbs or something.

And not very keen to the the tetra's. IDK I just don't think I would like that idea, but thanx anyway.:D

Silver dollar is a tetra, but I get what you mean. Redhook is like silver dollar with a, well red hook. Flagtail will get bigger then your gt.
How big is your tank?

It's a 55. Will more than likely be his home forever, but maybe a 75 in the future. So flagtails would probaly not work.

if you want to go with the south americn theme get some spotted metynnis (like silver dollars but with spots) otherwise try some medium sized barbs like spanner barbs or tiger barbs, or maybe some clown or yoyo loaches

You said it's a 55 gal tank and will probably be his home for life, it'd be pushing it big time to add Silver Dollars. My 'plain not spotted' Silver Dollars are now 5" around and I've had them less than a year. No way I'd cram them into a 55 gal. Get some Tiger Barbs or Albino (not really 'albino') Tiger Barbs. Adds tons of color & activity. I'm a real fan of Barbs now.

I think SDs get a bit big for a 55. I have giant danios with mine, they do great. I recommend those.

Thanks everyone for the help. I really do appreciate it. I'm going to list everyones suggestions then savagley explain why I hate each one or not.:D Don't hate, lol.

Silver Dollars-Since the GT is only in a 55 and I heat they get from 6-8 inch range I just think they would be too big for the tank. I would only be able to get like 2 anyways maybe 3 if they get that big. So that's a no go for the dollars.

Tinfoil barbs(all kinds)-They just get way too big. I don't want to have my GT as a dither to the barbs.

Buenos Aires tetras-I looked at some in the morning when I got to work and they look pretty cool actually. They were about 2.5 inches I would guess. Nice and big enough for my GT so they won't get destroyed. But IDK, meh lol.

Giant Danios-Nope they just look boring.:grinno:

Dats-Not a bad idea, here they grow slow too so could live with the GT for a while. They deserve a tank to their self though, now that's another whole tank idea.:naughty:

That leaves Tiger Barbs-The Winner!!:WHOA: Their small but not too small. The diff in color from the GT should make the tank looks great especially with a black background(AKA trash bag:)).

I heard they do better in groups of 6 at least. I'm going to get the albino's. I was thinking a group of 12 would be real nice and they could school and such. Think 12 could fit in the 55, not sure if it would work. 6 at least though. Thanks everyone and thanks for all of your opinions.

Great choice! 12 should be good but why not get 6 Albinos (which are actually orange/creme striped) and 6 regular Tigers (black/orange striped). They're all the same species and all school together. That way you'd have even more color in the tank. They're fast, colorful, eat the specs of food the GT misses and the ones I had came right up to the front begging like crazy.

I use a single male convict. He is tough (although he gets beat down a lot). Sometimes when she isn't totally dominating him she will allow him to hang out with her.

A flagtail is a red-tailed prochilodus. Cool looking characin that will get about 16 inches and is peaceful. They have big lips and suck on algae.
