would you need dithers for a pair of jds?

dithers are to help your fish come out of hiding and swim more in the open! so if your fish are skittish then you could get some!

also they are there to seperate aggression and basically a punching bag for the JDs

If you keep live plants then SD may not be what you want, cuz the will eat on them.

i like silver dollars too! i had a few in my 75 for dithers

I wouldn't say you will need them, no. Depending on the size of your tank, i think some type of dither will make an exellent addition for a solo pair. Personally i'd run with a hand full of Silver dollars with Dempseys. As stated dithers are commonly used to bring the personallity out of shy cichlids, the reasoning is that if the shy cichlid see's that the dithers are not scared, then they themselves have nothing to be affraid of. They can also be used to help a pair to form a strong bond, instead of beating on one and other. IMO they also add that little extra flair to a tank.

Giant Danios work well if you don't have enough room for silver dollars. They are jumpers though, so don't be suprised if you find one on the floor...
