what can i use around the house as a temporary divider???

whats a school crate?

:iagree: if not, the best thing to do is go to a local hardware store (lowe's, home depot, menards etc) and in the lighting section you should find plastic eggcrate in 4' x 2' sheets. this eggcrate material is what a lot of people use as a tank divider. :)

so you can see what eggcrate looks like, I made the "breeding box/cave" in the pic below out of eggcrate. :)

thanks i'll give it a try

there too small they'll swim right through that

I like eggcrate lihgt diffuser cut to size and held in place between suction cups if temporary and channels made from plastic chopsticks if long term. if the fish are to small for that glue(using aquarium safe silicone) some nylon screening to it.

You could also use things like chicken mesh if you have any spare lying around, or i have used window fly screen, we had some extra so i cut it up to theright size, the only tricky part is trying to make it rigid.

I also use an eggcrate... i simply cut the eggcrate to size for the tank, but i leave about 1/8 of an inch or what ever is needed on both the front and back end. I take a thick plastic tubing that is usually used as a return line to the tank. I cut it to about 6-10 inches (your choice). Then i cut ONLY one side of it so that it splits, then i just simply open that side and stick one side of the eggcrate in. Then i use another tubing for the other side. When i put the eggcrate in the tank with both the tubings on each side, i carefully push one end to the front and push the other end to the back untill the eggcrate is secure and stable and...... Walla! :headbang2 You got yourself an inexpensive aquarium divider!. :naughty:
