The natural variability in the grain and the way it takes stain is one of the things I like about wood :). You never really quite know exactly what its going to turn out like.

Very nice stand. I like the stained front with the black inside. Does it really need doors?
I agree. Poplar is just difficult to work with when staining but still better to look at than paint. I am only going to put a door on the small side to cover the mechanicals and to damper the pump noise. The larger opening is going to get a 36x16x16 riparium/Berlin filter that will barely fit.

great work, and it looks like its its going to be a really nice stand. I hope that you really like the look of the poplar, and hopefully you get a door of poplar as well, it has some of the most beautiful grain. However it is relatively soft and bendy in comparison to woods such as oak. overall I really like the design and build process.

Amazing!! if only i was that creative and had that much time..
Actually, it takes my mind off work and I'm not sure if it is therapy or a sickness.

Excellent job Sir! I assume once you get your plumbing project complete and your fish are transferred back, the stand will be in your way. Don't worry, I have a place you can keep it :)

Seriously, nice work!
