DIY 10gal Sump

Hello all!
Reading all these threads got me motivated and excited to try and build my own sump, I have an extra 10gal that is not in use and I want to try and build my first sump with it, and hopfully use it for my 29 gal. I seen a lot of different variations and I was really wondering the specs for the different chambers. Obviously they make a difference somehow, I just don't know how big each section should be. Also how do you know what size pump and tubbing to use. I kinda got an idea how i want to make it, I just want to see if there is anyone who made one with a 10gal or if anyone has specs or recommendations they could share!

an area for wool or fine mesh for mechanical filtration - 20% of sump volume
bio/chemical filtration scrubbies 70% of sump volume
pump housing maybe with a purigen bag 20% of sump volume
10% will be lost to sump divisions and the sump will never be 100% full of water.

i like to keep purigen at the end of the filtration process so it does not absorb too much ammonia or nitrite. i leave that to the bacterial action so purigen can wrk mainly on the nitrate.

go anlong kiss method if ur just after mech and bio filtration. 1 petition does it.i know thats what id o it goves me max media space. doesnt look as sexy as 50 petitions but oh well. rile of thum b ihave 1 thing just bige enough for return pump. and then the other filled with bioballz then a rdip tray folowed by a mech filter pad
 
What is a purigen? Is that a filter sock? So I would want to make the chamber for the bio balls as big as possible, the return section just big enough for the pump?

purigen is a chemical filter it is a resin that removes ammonia nitrates and nirites. filter sicks arent ideal filters they need be cleaned regularly in a messy tank and only do mech filtration plus they take up whole cpmpartements and alotta space prob just use bioballaz then abive that a drip tray and in the drip tray a filter pad thing

Could you show a picture or a diagram of your 1 petition set-up. I like simple...:)
 
Go to the ]V[onster DIY section and look at those sumps. I made mine like the corian design but with acrylic.
 
But you probably won't have room for the filter sock.
