DIY 24/7 water changer plan, how's it look?

yeah i think so, or maybe ill try a different brand, this is a hendrickson that i bought. now im wondering, do i even need a regulator? cant i just adjust the valve to get the right pressure?

would i be able to just put a pressure gauge on the 1/4" tubing to see what the pressure is, and adjust the valve accordingly?
 
I don't see why it wouldn't work. Of course,t hen you have the added cost of the pressure gauge vs the cost of the regulator.

I've been using this system for years and I don't treat or heat the water, my fish are fine. I change 1 gallon an hour 24 gallons a day in a 450. The old water goes out to the back yard to water the plants. Every one wins. I was going to water the plants anyway so basically the water is free lol I water the fish and the fish water the plants. The nice thing is, if you loose power your still getting fresh water to your system and a little water movement.
I'm interested in your drip system though? I just use a gate valve and some times it makes noise from setting the flow so low, it kinda hisses like when your turning off the sink. Does your system make any sounds at all when it's flowing?

nice to hear, what are you nitrate levels at normally? well, im still in the process of setting this up so i wont know for a while if it makes any sound :)

Nitrates below 20 always, most of the time at zero. Seems like when I do heavy mice feedings (friends over and a few beers........) Nitrates spike a few days later??? odd?? LOL

I just open up the gate valve and hammer the tank with some water then throttle it back to the original setting.

cool...so i found this for about ten bucks. would it be as simple as setting this up on some sort of tee connection, with the gauge pointing up? would that give me accurate pressure readings?

To get accurate readings, you may have to shut off the other side of the "T". I'm curious if the drip emitter would bleed off a bit of the pressure.

You might possible look for a pass-through style similar to the flow meters.
