Mine is clear 2 part I actuallu used it today, i coated a dyi addition to my 3d to make it fit my tank, sucks cause I alredy completed it with black sand then changed my mind. Know its covered in pool filter sand and I will need 2 coats to fully cover the black. To boot I mixed up all I had left and wasted about half that I could have used for the second coat, once its mixed it hardens in a few hours

It cost me 60 for 2 quarts 1part A one part B, Ive seen the fiberglass bg your refering to on youtube it loos great, as long as the fibers dond get in the water you will be fine, so seal it well with paint or whatever, you can use a blacklight to check for the fibers in the water, an old timer taught me this, he was hired to find out why all the fish were dieing in a public aquarium, the fibers get in the gills. They had an artist make an amazing and not properly sealed faux reef. Think you may need the resin for the orniments....or better yet hate to even bring up the scums name but when watching season 1 of tanked I saw them seal records and other non tank friendly stuff with a spray coating, that stuff would be amazing to get ur hands on. The company from the show is ATM in las vegas maby they will share the knowledge if you call them but I doubt it.

This is the stuff i useduploadfromtaptalk1335912693278.jpgthe phone number is on the can if you cant see it 206 517 2611 they sell hundreds of typed the lady on the phone will direct you to the best stuff I dont remember the website.....It can probably be had cheaper somewere else if you find a better source for clear epoxy let me know cause know I need more and another 60 really sucks

My prodject 155gal fit the bg between 2 overflows had to raise it 4" so i made the extention to match with some of the other bd pieceswanted the rocks to appear to be a natural retaining wall sand flowing down the middle. Sorry about the dirty glass... I cant wait till this thing is done been a very slow process to figure out how I want it and best way to make it happen

Thanks! I have watched Tanked for the past couple weeks and wish they would talk more about the fish than the tank itself... Anyway, they did a refrigerator tank (not all that fish friendly) that had decorations that were made how I want to make mine. I did send an email to them asking what they used on Monday but I doubt I will hear anything back. Time will tell.

In the mean time, I found out that discus keepers have been using EnviroTex Lite finish for years to make a solid sand bottom. And it's really cheap! and in the right quantity. I figure I'll put some in a cup and paint away. I will be going away for a couple weeks in June so if I get the parts done by then and let them cure while I'm away, it should be good :)

Damn Im irked, looks like this envirotex is solvent free resin and a fraction of the cost I got ripped off unless there is some other differance Im not seeing. Thanks for the info looks like they have it at michales crafts.

Just make sure you have a 40% off coupon and that should help make up for it ;)

I'll be starting my crafts in the next few weeks. Hopefully the word will spread on this stuff. It seems to be around and at a good price.

Thanks for the coupon tip, picked it up yesterday. But Im not 100% about it even though so many people have used it. In my research I found mult sites that tested nonylphenol on fish with neg results, it is the main ingriedient in the envirotex lite. Max acr is a good one I found and envirotex makes easycast wich is solvent free. Been doing some more research urathane spray is probablly the stuff they were using in that show.

I haven't seen any bad (dead fish) reviews on Envirotex yet and they use it with discus and reefs (they're sensitive). I'm finding it hard to find a MSDS on the combined material... they have it for each part but not the cured stuff. Rather odd. I did find a post where it cracked the bottom of someone's 240 or something gallon tank when they filled it with super cold water. At least they had insurance and the tank cracked with only a few gallons in it!

I think I'll only use it on stuff that I can remove from the tank just in case something goes wrong. Not that I think something will go wrong, my goldfish aren't all that sensitive. I change the water all the time anyway. I wont seal the cement with it (since I will be siliconing it into the tank), I'll just have to color the cement, use real rock for the stones in the tree, and silicone it together. I wouldn't feel comfortable having 340gph water running over this stuff non-stop for a couple years or more but I'm ok about using it as a hard sealant on items in my tank where the flow isn't a concern.

Now I'm not sure how to seal the hollow parts of the trees.

The output hose will point down into this area behind the left tree. It will fill up the "bucket"...

and flow out the hole and through the rain gutter hydroponic garden...

Out this hole and fill up this second "bucket" in the right tree...

and flow out over these rocks. Hopefully I can align them right so there isn't a lot of water noise.

Any ideas? Maybe some sheet plastic that I can silicone in place? I have some that we used to use for a diy slip and slide, could that work?
