I want to do a 3d background but my tank is already set up. do they have any materials that i can use that wont have to sit and cure without fish in the tank? is this possible? any suggestions or links to instructions. thanks

No matter what route you take, your going to have to take the tank down to do a 3D backgrounds. DIY or premade. The materials used need time to cure on both fronts.

BTW is that a Cichlasoma urophthalmus or exCichlisoma festae in your avatar? If looks Cichlasoma urophthalmus to me.

Actually, Designs By Nature does have some flexible BGs now that can bend around tank braces, and can be held in the magnets.

if i was you id get a NEW tank and do the background then just switch tanks when your done that way you can take your time and your fish wont have to to be moved as much

Price for DIY:

$10 per sheet of styro board (I used 2 for my 100 gal)
$5 per tube of GE Silicone I (I used something like 5, but it can be done with MUCH less)
$10 or less for a bag of quickcrete
$5-10 per tube of concrete tint (assume 2-3 different colors such as black grey and brown)
$1 for a brush (you'll use a few to paint on the concrete)

So for a DIY one, I'd say you're looking at $50-100 depending on how cheaply you go about it to DIY. More if you end up going with something like Sika 107 to coat the background instead of quickcrete.
