DIY 40 gallon saltwater tank----please help!!!!

It is treated, usually sealed with two part epoxy. On bigger tanks they are also fiberglassed, but you probably wouldnt need to. Check out these sites for some info.

There are other ways to seal the tank none of which are really cheap but it is always good to learn new things and if you have the cash, why not?

sorry, but noob DIYer question, can you use pond liner for saltwater tanks? if not are there anything similar to a pond liner that i could use for saltwater tanks?

You could use pond liner, but then attaching the glass/acrylic becomes a problem. You can't silicon to pond liner or acrylic really and its hard to get a glue that will. I am no expert, but these are just my opinions based of what I have read in the past. I think sticking with sealing the tank with epoxy then siliconing a glass viewing panel in place would be the easiest.
