DIY 55g stand - Rebuild

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had to go to work yesterday, so no progress then....

I have the frame & panels glued & clamped for the doors on stand #2.. As well as all rough cuts for the remaining pieces.. :)

Have to go to home depot (or somewhere) and get more glue, hinges & magnet catches... If I cant find that gallon of polyurethane I thought was in the garage, I need to get that too... :irked:

This weekend project will end up being 2 weekends over 3 weeks.. arghhh:cry:

it's worth the time man. it's great to see someone finally take the pride in their tank and stand that everyone else on here takes in the fish they keep. keep up the good work and gl.

Looking great! Keep up the good work. Keep us posted on your progress.

Heres a couple pics with a real camera (size reduced for easy loading). This is stand #2 laying on its back on the garage floor, clamped while the glue sets up...

I took the shots hanging like a monkey from the rafters  (I am not that tall, ya know.)

Tell the familly that if they let you go ahead with the bowfront then you'll replace that existing mirror with a 42" flat screen attached to the wall above the tank...best of both worlds.

Here's a couple more photos...

All the molding/trim is on with the exception of a 1/2 round rope molding I plan on putting around the top edge (see photo)

The doors are just waiting on 8 hinges & 40 screws. The ones I have are a bit too big because the doors are only 3/8th inches thick, so I will stop at the home depot tomorrow on the way home from work & pick them up as well as the rope molding.

They will be in the family room this weekend, even though the TV stand wont be done (oops)

Here's a shot of the stands in place, taken with a real camera rather than my phone.

Remember this is recycled (reclaimed) wood, so I expected the color variations, and there was just enough for the project, so I couldn't be choosie....

There actually isn't enough room for the bow front in the middle, so I will get/build a stand for the TV...

Once scape & stock is done then the last pic will be posted...

The Hang-On-Front filter on the right is now a HOB on the left..

& I suppose I aught to clean up the room a bit b4 the wife gets home :nilly:

looks good way better than mine looks but same concept I still need to make the covers and doors for the front of mine. mine are different sized tanks on the left is a 55G on the right is a 150G but I think the 55G is gonna be gone soon to be replaced with a 250G which means new stands for the 250G and the TV and stereo equipment casue for some reason the 250 is a tad longer than the 55 who would have thought. I am watching and enjoying
