Very nice DIY setup How long did it take to build the actual tank and was it cost effective? Filtration looks great too along with the auto changer

The build for one tank was about 50-60 hours. I think after building this and most of the other tank you could cut that down to 25 hours to build one.

It was very cost effective.

Is that stand 2x4's or 2x6's? Its hard to tell from the pictures...

2x4's.

A typical 2x4 is rated for a vertical parallel load of approx. 3400lbs. So just by the design criteria of the 2x4 you could use two 2x4's to support the gravity load of the tank, water and canopy. Of course the gravity load isn't the only load a stand is built for.

I used about 30 vertical 2x4's for the stand.

Cool, thanks a lot. I'm thinking about building a 8'x4'x2' tank, and was thinking I'd have to use 2x6's for the stand. That'll cut stand costs by about a 1/4...

Congrats animalman, simply stunning. I did not see how thick the acrylic is and what type of bonding agent did you use. I am really thinking about building a tank, but I am thinking of a plywood tank. I can see that an acrylic tank makes more sense and looks muuuch better. Also, how much does the tank bow with water in it? Thanks , Christian

1/2" acrylic all around. The bowing isn't any more than any Tenacor tank I've seen.

We used mainly Weldon 4. Only one spot was a big enough gap to use Weldon 16. All of the acrylic rod in the corners was secured with 4 and then 16 just to be safe. The overflows were fastened with 16.

YOU ARE THE MAN....WOW...

Looks awesome. Well done!! Those look like some happy rays to me. And that's quite a Disney collection you have there! CLASSICS
