Just letting you all know me and my friend are building an 7ft fish tank. it will be 84" X 24" X 30". wondering what thickness of ply wood we should use and fiberglassing thickness, layers and wood joint methods also fitting the front window. (perspex) any help would be very useful. posting pictures of project aswell

it will be 250 gallon. any help on size of timber for the frame???

yah you really go into the thousands...

If i where you i would go bigger, not much cost differance if you go to say

96" X 36" X 30", maybe $200 overall...

Go with a 3/4 ply, doesnt have to be A1 pine or maple... the chraper stuff will do. then make a frame for it for regidity, just like studding a house, footer header and uprights, out of 2X4 preferably but 2X2's are fine. then you know the drill... apply the plywood, then the fiberglass/w/ resin. 3-4 coats of that and then coat it in eopxy paint.

good to go..., the biggest expence will be the 3/4" glass you have to buy, unless you already have it.

i figure that ply and studs are sold in 8" lengths so why not just make the tank that size?... so there wont be anythoing waisted, then its just a bit more resin and glass...

If it helps I just wrote a basic list of parts for my 300 ply tank, rock solid! In 300G ply tank, tried to paste. Will try again.

ohk thankyou guys for the info. i mite go wider and higher in the tank dimensions. the framing is my worry. studding and where it should be placed and bracing

rawlo what dimensions is urs? whats your frame work like? and resing. how much roughly for finish product?

just coz i want some spotlight lol, i'm the other half of the brains behind this project.

cant wait to get started.

anyone wanna give us a figure on how much a 300g ply tank should cost?

state either US dollars or australian dollars.

makes a bit of a difference :P

Cheers!

Timmo

Like portabuddy said, ~500 US gallons should cost around 13,000 Dinars or 1000 Kroner.
