diy agrocrete ? (live rock)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Never made myself, but, yes, the garf one is a very common approach to making DIY live rock...I like the idea of DIY rock, its just the time scale for it to get to a point in time when it can be used effectivly which is the downside....

Update no 1

1 bag of concrete.
1 bag of agronote sand.

Waiting for a break in the weather and a little time.

This did not really seem to work for me i let the rock cure for over 24 hrs put it in a bucket of freshwater and the rock just crumbled into sand.

What ratios did you use and in what order did you mix it?

Also, you didn't say anything about rock salt...the rock salt is the whole point of the porous rock part. If you're just going to mix sand and portland cement you might as well just drop cinderblocks in your tank....

There was no rock salt on this batch but i do not see how that would make it crumble.

(The concrete mix maybe) concrete out here contains sand gravel and lime.
not familar with portland mix.

The ratio may have been cause but i would also not understand why.

Big gulp cup 2 part's argonite sand.
big gulp cup 1 part concrete mix (this mix had sand)

I think your mix has too much sand....regular concrete already has sand in it as you noted. By adding even more, I think there's just not enough concrete mix left to hold it together.

Try reading through either my thread on AC or the big thread on RC to get proper ratios, materials, and the reasons for each.
