Old fashioned mouth sucking for me - Easy, fast, and have the hang of it (The last part is most helpful heh)

A lot of syphons have check valves in them now. All you have to do is bounce it up and down in the water and it will start to flow. If your's dosen't, you can put the syphon all the way in the water and then put your thumb over the end of the hose. Turn the syphon upside down in the water and take it out full. take your thumb off the end of the hose until the syphon is 3/4 empty or the hose is full(which ever comes first). put the syphon back in the water still upside down and let it fill back up. Turn it right-side-up again and take your thumb off the end of the hose. It will flow now. It sounds like a lot, but it is really easier and faster than sucking.

python - cant imagine how i ever lived w/o it! :)

I used to just dip the whole tube underwater and got all of the air out of it. Then plugged up the end with my thumb and let it go into the bucket.

That is genius!! No more fish poo in my mouth!!

HECK YES!!

basic gravity for me... I dip the gravel vacuum under water, and lift it up allowing gravity to push water down the hose. Once water has gone over the edge of the tank in the hose I stick the vacuum back underwater and start cleaning the tank.

Python all the way, BABY!!!!!

I use the Pro-hose series.. 2 or 3 "bounces" and you got your siphon. I only use it for gravel vac though, for water change i have my "mobile water change cart" I use a large external pump mounted to a wheeled cart to start the siphon to suck water either outiside or up into my python attachment into the sink. If im in a big hurry, i just keep the pump on and it drains my tank at a very fast (unmeasured) rate.

That sounds like a slick setup!

When I used to manaul water change, I used the filling hose to empty with as well. The easiest way to start the siphon was to slowly FILL the full tank first (so the hose was full of water) but then unplug from the tap and it would start to syphon out by itself.

I use an auto drip system now and havent had to water change for years.
