DIY Background on 255 Gallon Westafrican Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thanks a lot for all your replies :-)
That really does look amazing! I have been saving some styrofoam to do something similar in my 180 gal turtle tank. Could you list how you did it and materials used?
I've done several of this walls in the past and I'm actually working on a "how to" video (photo slideshow) within a little documentation of this background. Planned was to do this in german, but maybe i'll try it in English too.

I will post the first try here

regards Thomas

What is the longevity like on these builds? I really want to put one in on my new tank but I'm worried that it'll start to breakdown in a year or two.

until now I don't have any negative experience and there are several Tanks with my builds out there.

my first Build was in 2008 and sold after almost three years and never heard about a Problem after that. Usually I build a Tank set it up and after two or three years i hand it over to someone who like it.

I think the most important thing is to use the right kind of cement, Sand, Styrofoam and Silicone

that's all I can say about it

Good morning from Switzerland

I got a little update about my Westafrican Tank :)

current stock:

1/0 Hepsetos Odoe (african Pike)
1/1 Parachanna obscura (african Snakehead)
1/2 Polypterus ornatipinnis (ornate bicjhir)
2/4 Tilapia Buttikofferi

For a better hiding chance i was adding more wood and a big cave with rocks and it works pretty well. The Tilapias are not that mean as whose reputation and they also had actually fry

Nice update.

thank you guys :-)

I finally got the tutorial of the Backround done. Unfortunately for this Board it is in German but I think it is understandable out of the Pictures.

Please leave here a Feedback so I can do it better for the next time ;-)
