We all start somewhere man. My first tank wasn't drilled. Neither was the 2, 3, 20th etc. BUT you can learn from my mistake..... Drilling is NOT hard at all. It's intimidating. But take it from someone that learned the hard way..... I spent the better part of 5+ years in the hobby scared to drill, looking back it's a joke. There is NOTHING to be scared of. It took me destroying the hang on overflow that flooded my basement to bite the bullet and give it a go. Not sure how long I laughed and shook my head for being such a wiener about it.

For the love of your fish......... DRILL IT.

Afterwards you'll be like what was I scared of???

Haha the issue I have is my tank is Inhabited with 7 growing cichla with no other place to out them lol. If I screw it up it's all over for me. I know realistically this tank won't last forever so I plan on making a build this summer. Right now I just want something easy peasy that sucks up a lot of poop haha

I could but there ugly as sin To be honest. I wonder if I stick to my plan but rather than have the pump right up top I run the pump down behind the tank. So basically up through the intake over the back of the tank and down just enough be below the water line. Then back up to my boxes. I know yor not big on the OHF idea but do you think that would work?

Put the pump in the tank and hide it behind a piece of wood. Done.

Or use an FX5 as the water supply for your dump filter (what I do on one tank). A dump is the equivalent of a sump (or better) with greater efficiency and better water movement. Why I've been using them for years.

I guess I'll have to keep the pump in the tank. I have a ton of established scrubbers floating around in my sump with a bag of matrix so an fx5 body wouldn't be large enough. Let me ask you this. I was always curious about lighting when you have a storage tote sittin on too of your tank. How do you have your lighting situated when 1/3 of the tank top is covered.

I have overhead lighting (hanging from the ceiling)...

Depending on the size / shape of the container(s) you use for the filter, you can situate the filter on the back part of the tank and strip light(s) on the front part (Or the other way around).

Pump in the tank it is. I will stick with my dual flower pot design because they will sit behind my lights. I will be ordering the supplies I need today and hopefully get this up and running within the next couple weeks.
